OCF already bore many of the hallmarks of the future mp3 codec. With a few enhancements, the basic structure of the OCF was made into a feasible technique. Stand By Me. Another of the most covered songs in the known universe, Ben E King's immortal classic has hit the charts so many times it is nearly impossible to count.
His delivery is uniquely Lennon, gruffing the vocals for pure rock essence. BMI, who keep track of such things, report that Stand By Me is the 4th most performed song of the 20th century, with something in the vicinity of 7 million performances. You can't argue with a good thing and this song is the goodest thing on this album after the first track!
Seal makes as good a choice closing the album or rather Foster probably does that for him as he did opening it. With a huge boom, Seal grabbed us with one of the greatest anthems of all time. Now he is going to put us to bed with one of the greatest spirituals of all time. Foster makes sure that the instrumentation on the song is both a tribute to and a hymnal nod to Curtis Mayfield by including his signature guitar break sound in Seal's cover.
This song, I have and know of over 40 different covers. Unlike some others on this set and more like Stand By Me, these last two immortal God Songs which close the album, have so much resonance in our society that another cover does not "hurt" the song nor this album. The question is whether or not, again, Seal stands up to the task, and just as with Stand By Me, Seal and Foster nail this one to the wall.
Thank you Seal for this spiritual delight, your delivery is as kind to the song as was Bob Marley's cover of it! Your choice in the end. My advice is buy it and enjoy it. It is a Heart Full Of Soul. If it were not for the stupendous performances on A Change Is Gonna Come, It's A Man's World, Stand By Me, and People Get Ready, this album would only warrant 4 Stars from me, but those four songs launch the CD as a whole into the atmosphere despite a couple lack-luster tracks that only seem lack-luster next to the more inspired tracks.
Go ahead. Other artists Michael McDonald for one have gone to bat with this format and come up short. This one is a homer with three men on base. I owned no other work by Seal, nor even heard any of his recordings, prior to purchasing this CD; however, I love classic oldies music and after hearing the 30 second excerpts of the selections on Soul, I knew to purchase it the ridiculously low price didn't hurt, either!
I'm glad I did, as every selection is beautifully rendered with passion and Foster's arrangements enhance the finished product. The younger generation may not appreciate these songs and how they're performed here, especially fans of Seal's other works yes, I previewed his other CD's here on Amazon , but I'm in my fifties and these songs bring back an era of great lyrical music and are timeless classics.
I highly recommend Soul to anyone like-minded! I already knew what songs were on this CD and I wanted it so I won't comment on that itself. What I was extremely pleased with was the quality of the CD.
It was not new and if I had not known that prior to the purchase, I wouldn't have known after opening. It was in perfect condition!
It was shipped within a day and I was able to track the CD so I knew when it was in my mailbox. Couldn't ask for more, thank you! Seal's ability to Transform these songs into his own realm of sonic bliss is a reputation he never fails to live up to. All of these songs - which I discovered through him - have come to mean soo much too me- Each song resonates with a period in my life and I can say without a doubt that this is one of my favorite albums From Seal.
The arrangements are immaculate and it bids necessary to point out that Seal's Rendition of 'Free' is soo well crafted - to cover any song by the song bird- Deniece Williams - Requires a very skillful vocalist - All the songs are Immaculate!!! One person found this helpful. By using MPEG audio coding, you [can] shrink down the original sound data from a CD by a factor of 12, without losing sound quality. In the early s, Frauenhofer developed the first MP3 player—but it was a bust. Share Flipboard Email.
This show was all based on time. At one point in the show, I removed my own headphones and went only off my time index. It was truly enjoyable to watch people blowing up balloons and trying to keep them up in the air as long as possible.
The stage was packed! Certain effects were lost simply by the amount of bodies dancing around or hugging. I was very pleased to be a part of it. Somehow this was twice as interesting as when the entire audience was doing the same thing. Ah, the suspense! I really enjoyed participating in this show, and I hope that you do it again.
There were times when I felt so happy during it that I giggled like a little schoolboy. The concept is amazing, and I hope and pray that you do more of these in the future. It made me feel part of a generation; there is no way that this show could have happened even 2 years ago!
What a great way to end This is an awesome idea. I thought of doing something similar, and seeing it actually done successfully confirms my want to do this. An interesting concept, but certainly does not match the brilliance of some of the other missions. Led by more ridiculous costumed characters this time a giant Sun, Cloud, Raindrop, and Snowflake the groups paraded through the woods to meet up with each other by a beautiful lake. An epic battle between the elements took place and everyone celebrated by forming a person conga line.
The Mp3 Experiment 2. A few minutes after pressing play, participants suddenly rose from their seats on the field as everyone else in the park looked on in shock. Listeners had unknowingly downloaded four separate mp3s and were thus divided up into groups, led by a ridiculous cast of a Sea Captain, Bumblebee, Dolphin, and Astronaut.
The event ended with a Rock Paper Scissors battle and a beach balls being tossed into the air. The Mp3 Experiment The audience watched a projected countdown clock and then all pressed play together. A few minutes later the seats were empty as the entire crowd was dancing on the stage. Thats it really. I did a search on Google and haven't been able to find one.
