I've heard 4 good albums by Mono and had yet never heard vocals on any of their tracks untill now. They still good but with this song it feels to me sort of like BlackMetal. Either way it actually works. Mono is post-metal with shoegaze mixed in with Oscar-worthy soundscapes.

Their music takes you places without having to go anywhere. The journey begins in your mind. Features Interviews Lists. Streams Videos All Posts. Release Date October 28, Recording Date May, - June, Track Listing. Recoil, Ignite.

Instead, Rays of Darkness more closely resembles a jet engine taking off inside a small, crowded auditorium. The album ends with the smoldering wreckage of distorted guitars and ominous drones playing out a eulogy to the days when MONO shot blinding rays of light through seemingly endless darkness.

Acquire, please legitimate discs, which no doubt will adorn your collection! And, Rays of Darkness is just inexplicably dull. On it, Mono pulls off an impressive feat: smashing gargantuan swells of drama and volume into two-dimensional smudges, as if they were bugs to be afraid of. True to form, he howls a hole through the flimsy, post-rock-patterned tissue of the song. Guidance by Russian Circles. Heavy and visceral.

Arguably the strongest of the Russian Circles catalog! Wonderful cinematic post-rock from Australia. Telling tales without words! It starts with sparse piano melodies echoing in soulful refrains above glassy guitars, then the emotive strings kick in. The overall effect is a unique kind of musical beauty that hurts in its sweetness. This track is from the first Mono album I ever owned, so it holds a particularly sentimental value for me.

After a soft, innocent build up for 4 minutes, the song tremors beneath layers of fuzzy, shimmering guitar leads. Best described as a serene soundscape, the delicate guitar lines in this minute-long song sound so fragile.
